An amazing thing happened on Sunday, 5 April.
The local pabulum jazz station (103.1) played "Sound & Color" on their Sunday AM "Landscapes" show and later in the afternoon, the local "classic" rock channel (96.5),played Open Your Eyes during a YES triple-play session.
I thought it was funny when the jazz DJ referred to the JA tune as " Jon Anderson playing with the woodland animals." I almost spit coffee all over my one-year old I was laughing so hard.

Anyone seen the reviews of Bill Martin's "Music of Yes" in Mojo, and "Listening to the Future" in Mojo and (rather more interestingly) The Wire? Vicious but fair, I fear.....

Last Sunday POLSAT 2 TV (Poland satellite channel) broadcasted a progressive rock special, featuring interviews and clips with FLOY (Waters int.), and some others, including YES live in Poland 1998, and interview with Howe and Sherwood.
The stage seemed very poor and cheap, and the band looked like they were fat, old and tired...
Anyway, it has been the 1st time in years that YES are on European TV.

A major media event is planned for the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City at 9 AM on April 28, and is open to the general public. This is to announce Yes' Summer Surround Sound Tour which will be presented with a special surround system designed by the Clair Bros. The tour is sponsored by DTS.
Among the events scheduled:
A demonstration of the surround sound system to be used on the tour. Three songs from Yes' performance at the Universal Amphitheater last December will be played through the system.
A ceremony where Yes will be presented with a plaque for their 30th anniversary and 30 million albums sold worldwide. Yes will receive recertifications from the RIAA for seven albums that have gone multi-platinum. Roger Dean will be in attendance along with displayed lithographs of some of his famous artwork.
Note that the band will not be performing. The Hard Rock Cafe will be filled to capacity. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Yes clothing, and if possible to visit the NBC Today show window with signs to make the hosts aware of Yes' stature. The Hard Rock Cafe is at 221 W. 57th in NYC. YesWorld: yes.news

Innerviews Magazine: Music Without Borders
I haven't officially announced this interview yet, but I thought I'd let you all know about it in advance.
A pretty fascinating new interview with Yes is now available on the Innerviews website at http://www.innerviews.org
A lot of unique discussion comes up, including: Possibly Chris Squire's first public comments on XYZ
The making of OPEN YOUR EYES and KTA2
The current "business" of Yes
Details of the group's take on Billy Sherwood
The whole union story in all of its gory glory
And a whole lot more.
From Tami Freed (Toltec7) - April 28
Well, there were a few of us at the Hard Rock Cafe today. Couldn't be more than 50 fans total. So much for a mob scene! :-)
There was a fair amount of media people in attendance, which was nice to see.
No Steve Howe, no Igor. Jon mentioned Steve was sick with the flu, and Igor was lying down somewhere (or something like that).
The guys were presented with numerous plaques, and then fielded a few questions. Chris mentioned they will be doing "Close to the Edge" and "Mind Drive" this summer. Pretty cool, eh?
Not much more to say about today... for those who didn't go, don't think you missed some great big huge event. For those who did go, nice to see ya! :-)

From Robin Kauffman - April 28
LOVED the huge plaque (more like 4 dozen framed CD's with a huge brightly colored Yes logo in the middle and all of the other alternate Yes logos painted in gold on the glass) they got for 30 years and 30 million albums sold. I'd certainly like to have THAT hanging on my wall somewhere. :-) ***INCREDIBLE*** about them playing "Mind Drive" this summer, huh?! :-)
Got the chance to speak with Alan briefly afterwards and he said that Alan Parsons would probably play for 3/4 of an hour to 1 hour. Yes will play for 2 hours. They also will be playing "New State of Mind" and are rehearsing "Universal Garden" which he said sounded pretty good, but didn't commit to whether they would definitely be playing it or not. He said that he definitely wanted to.
*************
From Rhea Frankel (rhea@sas.upenn.edu) - April 29
I was there. Hearing that they were planning to play "Mind Drive" was definitely a highlight. Also noteworthy is that they will be using a Roger Dean designed stage set.
I didn't expect it to be so short. I called out sick from work that day, and I'm not sure it was worth it. Plus, I managed not to get one of those chocolate bars with Yes logos on them. We didn't hang out afterwards to meet the band. Did anyone get to?
"Best question asked of the band" award goes to John Amick, who used to post here (on AMY). He managed to get in with the press people (they were the only ones allowed to ask questions) and he asked where Igor was, and as a follow-up, when he was officially joining the band. Jon gave a roundabout answer, saying that they'll be working on a new album after the summer tour, and will make a decision then.
What else?
Alan Parsons is opening every show. He was there too.
Supposedly, according to the Jam Tickets person, all shows went on sale yesterday, Tuesday, at 9 am.
They are definitely not planning a big reunion show, with former members, for their 30th anniversary.
The whole thing, including people from Jam Tickets, Atlantic Records, Alan Parsons, Roger Dean, and the band lasted about an hour.

Peter Ross, a worker for C P Cases, a music/ concert case company recently took out of storage a storage box used during the seventies for the musical group Yes.
Discovered inside were approximately a dozen reel to reel live sound board recordings! No word yet on when these will see the light of day.

There's also info about these tapes on the YesWorld website along with pictures of a rep from the case company showing them to each of the band members. They evidently brought the tapes to the last London show.

Great gig. Patrick was not only in fine form behind the keys, but also behind the microphone. His genuine nature and charming sense of humor delighted the rather sizable crowd at Steamers' Cafe. Both Patrick and Ronnie turned in inspired performances. No disappointed fans at this great gig!

Dave -- quite similar to the Harbor College gig in that it was Patrick and Ronnie on Grand Piano and Drums, respectively -- of course. Quite different from the Harbor College gig in that Patrick and Ronnie never do anything the same way twice...
Patrick kept saying things like, "Let's play 12 bars of ___ and see what happens." They did do full versions of "Blue Brains/Black Brains (of Positronic Africa)" and "Children's Concerto".
Patrick was in the best spirits I have ever seen him. What a joy it was. A truly great evening...!
