Angelus Foundation Florida
From Rick [samgeyser@aol.com] - June 17

I wanted to pass this info along to anyone interested.

Last August, Jon and Alan performed at a benefit concert for the Angelus Foundation in Clearwater, Florida.

The weekend of January 19-22,2001, the group is staging a celebrity golf tournament and concert featuring Charlie Daniels and several localand national bands will also be appearing. Their web site mentions Jon, Alan and Chris "Squires" of Yes. I am not sure if they will be performing or just playing golf. [Yeah, I know. I just can't see Jon playing golf for some reason ...] It will be held in Coachman Park in Clearwater.

Last year was a blast. That is where I sat next to Jane and she demanded that I "buy the Ladder CD when it comes out!" (I had told her about a promo copy I received from someone else ...).

We had a wonderful weekend in the park with the NFL Alumni and all the different groups that played. The links below will get ya there and you can read about who and what the Angelus Foundation is all about.

When I spoke with Jon and Alan last fall in Tampa, about 2 months after their appearance at the benefit, Alan had said he had a great time. Jon said, "Ohhh...it was crazy!!!" Alan also told me that some of the kids from the home would be in attendance in Tazmpa. They were and after the show I had the pleasure of chatting with a few of them and their caregivers. The kids were sooo excited. It was a great "after the show" Yes moment for me. Anyway, here's the links. I'll post back here closer to the event with any additional information.

My Review of West Palm Beach Masterworks Show

From Dante Nieri - Trener - from Lima Peru [trener.goalsnetusers.goals@goalsnet.com.pe] - Aug 14

Hi: Here is my review for Yesworld from the West Palm Beach show.

CLOSE TO THE GATES OF RITUAL

From Lima, Peru in South America, my wife and I traveled all the way to West Palm Beach, Florida to see and hear my favorite band since I first heard Fragile in 1972.

Is somehow difficult to say something new, something that has not been said before in the many reviews of everyone which has wroten on this tour. Some of them even music experts, who see and hear things that the rest of mankind, as me, are not able to perceive. Anyhow, will try a different point of view.

My position in the venue was not as good as I would have like (ile 15 and to Squire's end) but finished absolutely amazed with the interpretation of this genius musicians. As you know, the concert started with Close to the Edge, which is my favorite song, all my life I was looking to hear it live because the other two opportunities I've seen Yes, they didn't presented it. I felt absolutely strange, even though I knew the setlist, I was somehow shocked listening to Close to the Edge and being the first song, was incredible for me to be there. Felt that it was not a good beginning, too strong, I think that they should have start warming up with something more light as Yours is no Disgrace or Siberian Khatru which would also mean that the concert would have been longer than two hours, as it was a little bit short, few songs.

Starship Trooper let me warm up, I enjoy it better in the encore. Then came in Gates of Delirium, I was feeling more relaxed and prepared to enjoy it, the result: gorgeous. More relaxed with Leaves of Green with a incredible interpretation of Howe. Then, with lots of tranquility to hear on of Anderson's favorite song, Heart of the Sunrise. When finished, finally and for the first time for me, I though that I was completely prepared for what was coming, Ritual. I was wrong. For me, Tales is an extraordinary work, its four pieces are of my absolute pleasure, but beneath Close to the Edge and Gates of Delirium, even though, that night at West Palm Beach, Ritual was the best song in this concert, the impression I had during this song is impossible to describe with words, I was in another dimension, the music seemed to be from other planet, was a highly intense experience and this is to say thank you to Yes, but special thanks to Chris Squire, who that night was spectacular, completely inspired, moved all around the scenario as a young kid, gave himself to his audience with no reserves, I think that thanks to him, we appreciated an unforgettable show. After Ritual I was feeling very tired but with lots of energy to continue looking and hearing more, then came All Good People and Roundabout and all over, as all the good things, too fast. I was feeling tired as if I would have been up there with the band playing and singing, exhausted, but completely prepared to continue hearing of that heavenly music.

Regarding the musicians, I have been very clear pointing Squire as the star of the night, followed by Igor Khoroshev, regardless is painful to me to accept it. And I say this because for me, Anderson, Howe and Squire are the spine of Yes, they always have to be there, the ones who give that so special sound. I saw Khoroshev enjoying Yes as he has never done it. The three times I have seen Yes, has been with him on keyboards. This time he made no mistakes, precise in the support to percussion, he sang and dance, and finally stolen the show from Squire for a moment when he came down to the front of the scenario with Anderson and Squire during the drums solo. The other three members of Yes very professional and my order is White, Howe and Anderson. Now, this is something good of a band like Yes, as they all are excellent musicians, any of them could surpass the other in an inspired night.

Regarding Kansas, I liked it, even though is a band that I know not too much, good musicians, good performance and a lot of feeling with the audience. Unfortunately, the people did not respected them, they started with the venue almost empty and the people talking and moving around, very few fans of Kansas. Seems to me that it is not a very good idea to do that kind of mixes among bands. I would have preffered twenty minutes more of Yes, instead of Kansas.

Don't want to finish my comments without mentioning my surprise on the bad conduct of the audience, drink too much beer, too much pot, and with no respect for anyone, they are always moving going to the restrooms, coming with more beer, intrerrupting in incredible moments, too much scandalous and hysterics. Really, really, being a Yes concert and thinking on the average age of its fans, I thought that the behaving was going to be better. Now, imagine how good it was, that anyhow all this problems, I enjoy it intensively. No ofense with my comments, please.

Finally, the concert was filmed with several cameras, at least four, I highly recommend you to buy the DVD or videotape when available.

Patrick Moraz Resonance

Total time 60'00''

Baldwin grand piano

Reviewed by Matt Riddle

This latest release from keyboard virtuoso, Patrick Moraz, is a stunning sequel to his 1995 piano CD, "Windows of Time". While it bears the familiar hallmarks of his unique style, Moraz finds new ground to explore while maintaining his uncompromising standard of excellence.

"Resonance" opens with a bold masterstroke entitled, "Vortex of Life", which is comprised of four seperate movements. This ingenious suite represents one of the most significant achievements in the modern classical medium today, and undoubtedly places Moraz among the great composers of history.

Other tracks include:
Sundance
Moondance
Resonance
Colloids Bounce Around
Standing in the Light
The Light
Birds on a Wire
The first time I listened to this CD, I was struck by the warm, yet sparkling quality of sound and vast array of ideas. Patricks' fluid and gracious stlye, exceptional melodic charm and formal elegance, reveal layers of depth only hinted at initially.

I highly recommend this CD to all piano music connoisseurs.

Masterworks Broadcast

From: "cbm_sola" - Aug. 19

The NYC classic rock station is pumping the Masterworks show from NJ on their web page. I guess they are kind of excited about it since they were at the show and promoted it. Check the link, they have pictures from the show. Q104 is great, they must have had some kind of Yes related stuff on their web page for at least 8 months now.

Yes Webcast

From: Vojtech Toman [vtoman@lit.cz] - Aug 20

Hello, I've just seen the Yes Concert Webcast..... It was the first time I've seen Yes live (except ABWH tour on our TV) and I am totally without words....The show was AMAZING! I nearly cried during Wurm! I've never heard Steve playing his solos so powerfully! Everyone was excellent, but Chris was exceptional. Yes wouldn't be Yes without him...The drum section of Ritual was like a scene from hell! What an atmosphere! (a small rebuke to the director of the recording: there were too many cuts in this section, IMO...) I'd like to thank to all good people who offered us the webcast. I was very unhappy that Yes wouldn't tour in Europe, but the webcast brought that great atmosphere to my home! Thanks!
