Scottish Daily Record Review From: Donald Taylor [donald.taylor@virgin.net"@virgin.net] - Feb 25

This was printed in today's edition of the Daily Record (Scotland's Champion). Alongside a caption of Jon Anderson with the words still sounding great.

Yes, Clyde Auditorium 17/2/00

"THEIRS IS TRULY NO DISGRACE"

quote.......By all the usual benchmarks, Yes should have shuffled off this mortal coil long ago. Jon Anderson's stalwart troupe of musicians no longer shift albums by the platinum bucketload. Nor do they inspire a new generation of prog rockers, keen to replicate the epics such as TfTo or KtA. But when it comes to playing their distinctive brand of harmony based rock fused with jazz and innovative musicianship, nobody does it better.

Last Thursday the faithful who have followed the band in all its myriad forms came to worship at the altar of Yes at the Clyde Auditorium. And not one of us was disappointed.

This is a band that has quite simply improved with age. Founding members Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White and of course the pivotal Anderson alongside Billy Sherwood and keyboards maestro Igor Khoroshev, they took us on a magical history tour.

Opening with Yours Is No Disgrace, they then ripped into And You and I, Time and A Word, Awaken and a supreme rendition of I've seen all good people. But it was great to hear the new songs from the bands excellent 30th anniversary album, The Ladder, sounding so good beside the classics. Homeworld and It Will be a Good Day sounded like a band in the first flush of youth rather than one which could soon bow out of the concert spotlight. Indeed, how many bands today can boast a five minute standing ovation for every song?.

They rounded off the night with Owner of a Lonely heart - not a song typical of Yes. But the thunderous applause which greeted Roundabout proved that, despite what Neil Young says, it really is better to burn out.

However, the Yes candle still has plenty of life flickering in it yet.....unquote.

AND SO SAY ALL OF US - SCOTLAND LOVES YOU.

Yes in the media From: Marichela y Carlos [danisol@chavin.rcp.net.pe] - Feb 26

Today's edition of 'El Comercio' (most important newspaper from Peru) brings a half page article entitled "Ladder to infinite" with a very positive review of The Ladder, rated as of notable quality. The critic considers 'Lightning Strikes' as the only dead point of the album, an unnecessary tune with a latin type.

"Conspiracy" delayed From: brian_neeson@solectron.co.uk - Feb. 28

I have just been informed that the release date for Conspiracy, which was due out today has been put back by one week.

Possible reasons.
1. Oasis fans may not have funds to buy both new releases on the same day.
2. Chris Squire thinks we won't mind waiting one more week for his "follow-up" to FooW. "What's one more week in 1200?"
3. It's Eagle who are releasing it - .....

Just checked CD Universe site for info on the CD. They list release date as 3/21 (for us in the States), and the "artist" is Sherwood/Squire. Does anyone else find it interesting that Billy is getting top billing?

Steve Howe in Guitar Player From: MECLEC@aol.com - Feb 28

For those who are synchronized to all things Howe, there's a nice little feature of Mr. Steve in the current Guitar Player magazine, including an excellent picture from the GFTO era/w the Gibson 175D. As Matthew (CyberMatt) says, "hey, they're keeping him alive." . I guess since he can't qualify for the Gallery of Greats anymore, why not?

Back from London From: Tbover - Feb 29

Just got home from the trip I won to see Yes in London. When we arrived in London we were met at the airport by a driver who took us to the hotel where we spent most of the first day shaking the jet lag.

The second day we went sight seeing in London and tried getting used to the transport systems.

The third day was the concert. After lunch we walked about six blocks from our hotel to HMV to get in line for the signing session. The line took us about two hours to reach the band but it was well worth it since all the band was there and the people we met in line were from Scotland and were real nice to talk with. I got my wife and son to get something signed too, so I made out pretty good at that gig.

After a great dinner at Rules (part of the prize) our driver James picked us up and took us to the show where we got our back stage passes at a pickup window. We had seats in the center boxes of the Royal Albert Hall. The band did a great performance even after having to endure a lengthy afternoon of signing autographs. It was so great to hear Yes perform in the town where the band started out. All the songs sounded great and during the encore, Jon's son and daughter and Steve's son came up on stage to jam with Roundabout.

After the show we went to the after the show party were we met some real cool Yes fans and Yes family members and got a couple more autographs and pictures. My ten year old son had almost as much fun as me meeting the band members who were all real nice to us.

After spending the next week (on our own dime) in London and Paris we got back to States today and now have some time to let this trip of a lifetime sink in thanks to Beatnik, Yes and Yesworld and a bit of my mixing.
