New Release: "Preludes to a Century"
From: Graham Johnson [ggj@dircon.co.uk] - Jan. 21
Well Preludes To A Century has arrived and is playing now. I am only half listening to it in the background but it sounds very, very good. Not as powerful as The Heritage Suite, more along the lines of the Airs series I'd say, but so far I'd rate it up there with the best of his piano pieces.
There are 12 tracks which average out at about 5 minutes each. The shortest is the opening track at 3:42 and the longest the closing one at 7:13.
The cover art isn't anything special - very much a half hearted attempt as Themes was - and indeed the packaging is a major letdown. None of the quality of RotVA, Tapestries or Heritage Suite. However it is a budget album. Only =A37.99 plus postage from Amazon. Recent albums have been as much as =A315.99 or =A316.99 in the shops.
Oh yes, and it isn't entirely grand piano it seems. The sleeve mentions the presence of a Korg Trinity Pro-X. I haven't spotted it yet.

BBC Radio 2 interview, yesterday, with Rick Wakeman
From: Tizwin Hay [tizwin@progress.freeserve.co.uk] - Jan. 27
I devoted 2 whole days to alerting people to Rick Wakeman's BBC Radio 2 interview with Johnnie Walker, aired yesterday on 88 - 91FM across the UK, + deep into Europe via satellite, and world-wide via the BBC's website. Do any Southsiders have an opinion regarding Rick's reference to his recent dinner with Keith Emerson, in which they discussed the aim to tour together "next year"? Also welcome will be comments about any other aspect of the interview.
