THE MASTERWORKS POLL

====================

Yes has received the results to the Masterworks poll, and I'm happy to say that so far the results appear to have made an impact. The songs that the band members are considering include many that have not been heard in many years--or at all. And to top it off they are considering this Masterworks 1, meaning it won't be the last time they do this. Thanks for making your choices known.

Members have asked that the results and their possible choices be kept private for now, and we can see why. There have been rumors flying about the songs that are supposedly in the set list, with fans up in arms that songs supposedly included are ones Yes had played in the recent past. I believe these songs may have been in an early, pre-poll set list and chances are very good they won't be now.

But some of the ideas the band is considering have been enticing--including playing just the top 5 or 6 songs in the poll (which, BTW, includes at least one song played on recent tours). But don't hold them, or us, to that. Keep in mind that until Yes gets into rehearsals the set list will not be final as only they will know what feels right.

A few words about the poll. The tallies were adjusted for obvious efforts to stuff the ballot box, as it were. The band wanted an honest representation of what the fans would like to hear; but let's face it, when a fan submits the same songs under many email addresses (with the same IP address) then the final tallies aren't a true representation, and some of these efforts were not only obvious but downright malicious. This included people who voted for the same two songs using the business addresses of their coworkers, forgetting (or maybe not caring) that confirmation mail was sent to those unsuspecting people. Needless to say those people were not happy, and the effort was wasted anyway as all the bogus votes were excluded.

But on the upside the songs that garnered the most votes were mainly rare ones, and opened the bands eyes. I don't think we fans are the only ones excited about the Masterworks Tour.

Billie Sherwood becomes Yes Alumnus

From: Brian Neeson [Yescelt@aol.com] - June 15

Henry Potts you said

"Sherwood left at the beginning May, some time before the rumours that the band plan on playing "Southside of the Sky". So it's worth bearing in mind that the band's decision to try "Southside of the Sky" was made when they knew they didn't have Sherwood around."

Absolutely right, Henry. In fact it seems that Billy knew as early as February that he would not be in Yes much longer. see SYN32 - published 29th February. http://hem.passagen.se/yespage/syn/updates/syn32.txt

You guys may know about this, I didn't. It seems to be an extension of the interview Yes did in the studio as they promo'd The Ladder as seen in the game Homeworlds commercial. The second section is better. http://www.rockuniverse.com/yes/video.html

Rick Update

From: Chris Hunt [chris@hunt31.freeserve.co.uk] - June 24

I recently saw Rick at a concert in Southport U.K. During his performance he tells stories between pieces, one of these relates to Jon visiting him at his home in the Isle of Man. I doubt if he has any intention of re-joining Yes, the following paragraph is copied from the tour program.

After the first of his personal charity golf tournaments,(April 28th at Stockley Park Golf Club near Heathrow),Rick leaves immediately afterwards for the USA where he begins a lengthy tour with Keith Emerson playing right through until July 7th. This is a huge production tour and the pair of them will be taking a twenty piece orchestra along with them as well as a full rock band and vocalists. It is very probable that the tour will end up in Europe at some time later in the year. Rick and Keith plan to release an album that will initially just be available on the Internet and at the concerts, before becoming available in the shops and a live album from the tour, plus video and DVD should be available by Christmas.

In August Rick has to go away and write and finish off more solo projects as well as deliver a commissioned novel to the book publishers, Harper Collins.

September looks like Rick will be taking his six piece band for a tour of South America and possibly then going directly to Japan.November could well see the Emerson/Wakeman project appear in other countries.

Rick Wakeman's "Stella Bianca + Remix single

From: Vannuccio - MP Records [vzanel@tin.it] - June 22

Andrew Wooding asked: "I'm a year or so behind with completing my Rick collection (still need to get the two trilogies)., I also need to get Rick's two recent Italian releases: "Stella Bianca," and the remix single ... Does anyone know of any dealers in the UK that sell both of these, especially the remix single?"

I don't know who can sell "Stella Bianca" and "A quatte mani" (single) in the UK, since we haven't been able so far (though we made great efforts to) to have them distributed in the UK.

We are the Label who released them and you can apply directly to us if you need them. Our site is http://www.mprecords.it, but for any questions, please write to vzanel@tin.it. Thanks a lot & bye,
