Jon on Politically Incorrect

From Sue Mariconda (Fan of Yes) - June 2

As was said, Politically Correct is on ABC. I have it listed here at 12:05a.m. Friday morning (late Thursday nite). It mentions 3 guests in the TV guide, none of which are Jon, but there should be a 4th one which is probably him. The others listed are David Brenner, author James Van Praagh, and think-tank analyst Naomi Lopez (whoever the last two are).

PI is now on ABC and at least here in the Philly area, it airs at midnight...right after Nightline. Apparently, one of the other guests is the person who Cher used to channel Sonny after his death. He and Jon should get along famously!!! LOL! BTW, look for another interesting announcement about something else to happen in a couple of weeks.

ABC's Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher

It lists the same 3 guests I mentioned from TV guide, with the 4th guest (Jon) listed as "TBA." So much for Yes publicity! I also noticed that a day or two after an episode you can read transcripts of the episodes, so check here in a few days for it. Under "In the Forum" you click on "Word for Word" and that's where transcripts are.

It's a shame Jon's not doing it on the 8th. I'd have paid good money to see him sparring with Bobcat Goldthwait and Bianca Jagger. :)

If anyone notices, there was a copy of OYE on the table in front of Bill Maher. I guess he was supposed to mention it or promote it (why else would Jon have participated?) because there was a cue card in big letters saying "JON" for the second segment, but Bill never did bring it up. After the show and after all the other guests had left, Jon had a "little chat" with Bill to probably speak his mind. It was interesting.

The lacky sychophantic assistant writer that lead the audience in the preshow warmups and between commercial entertainment played off of Zap and his unbridled Yes passion. It was really cool. I think you blew him away Zappaq when you told him that you had seen Yes 40 times. Oh, and thanks for the ticket. I really appreciated it!

Jon looked good. I just wish he had something more to say. They taped two shows tonight. One for tonight and the other for tomorrow. Tomorrow's show I think was better. Adam West guested.

He held up the cd, and said something like "the name of the album is Open Your Eyes, the tour is the OYE Surround Sound Tour"...I think Jon looked good and he participated more than I thought he would, since I figured he'd be giggling at David Brenner the whole time :-) HEY JEFF! I looked for your mug on the tube, but didn't see it - I'm glad you got there though (you too Fretless and Zapp:)

Zappaq wrote: It was a blast. Well, a mini-blast anyways. Great to meet Doug "Myfretless" and Jeff. Such a unique experience meeting people you've "met" on-line. Very neat. I just love studios so I could hardly contain myself once things got rolling. I wanted to jump up on the stage and join in. I would've deflected the conversation to Jon more that's for sure. Did anyone see it? We were behind Jon off the right shoulder of the guy sitting next to him "Mr. Dial-in-the-dead-operator-communicator-man" or whatever.....I saw us a couple oftimes. We kept Jon and Yes in the focus a bit during the warm-ups. Very startling was when he asked how many have seen Yes....Oh my, only a very few.......But he did say if he had to recommend one concert to go to it would be Yes!!

I wanted to hear Jon talk more about his family. That was interesting. He waved and acknowledged us afterwards and then proceeded to "discuss" what seemed to be a bit of a problem with the host as Doug mentioned. I bet Jon leaves nothing unturned!

From Barbi (barbi96462@aol.com): We don't get Politically Incorrect in my area, either. I don't know about the play by play, tho you can get the transcript word for word.

Review : 'Politically Incorrect' with guest Jon Anderson.

From Rush Wickes (law@vatech.edu) - June 4

Airdate: Friday, June 5 - 12:30 AM ABC network.

Bill Maher introduces Jon Anderson while holding up the Open Your Eyes cd, 'new in surround sound.' He congratulated Jon, (who is sporting a beard now) and said, 'the album is fantastic'. Did he really listen to it? (The cd was still in it's shrink wrap I think)

First topic, frozen embryos and who owns them, Another guest, comedian David Brenner, was quite funny on this, while researcher/author Naomi Lopez was analytical. Jon just smiled and laughed for the most part.

Next segment, Jon was first asked whether the state of Mississippi should continue to allocate tax dollars towards educating new fathers on their responsibilities to their children. Jon reflected on how his children are his life and that such things would be important. Again Brenner had some good one liners.

On topic of whether surviving families of plane crash fatalities should have right to sue airlines for their (survivor) pain and suffering, Jon said something to the effect of 'losing someone means having to eventually let go, but it's wrong to try and profit from it."

All in all, Brenner was quite funny and as predicted by others on this newsgroup, the singer just sat there and nodded along for the most part. I think Chris Squire would have made an interesting guest, as he does a lot of reading apparently in his spare time and would likely bring a bit more humor in his quips.

Knowing Chris though, he would probably show up to the studio late and on the day after recording had taken place.

Jeff (Yesfan1046) wrote: I was at the P.I. taping, they played the whole CD to the audience before the show....Bill was in the area...but did he *actually* hear it?????

TMYK bonus track

From Kathy (GiottoLady) - June 12

Remember when we were talking about the Japanese bonus track from The More You Know? I just read on a.m.y. that the new Yes collection, Friends and Family (or whatever it is) will include this track! Now I don't have to buy the Japanese version of TMYK! Yippee!
