Hot Scoop on New Album

Peter Banks New CD

From Scott "Frank Kutos (EUD)" [EUDFSKU@am1.ericsson.se] - June 23

I read an announcement (somewhere) that Peter Banks had released an album this week, entitled "Can I play you something?" This was to be a compilation of early works (1964 - 1969) including Mable Greer's Toy Shop and some unreleased Yes. Has anyone seen this, or read a similar announcement?

Yes in Atlanta 9-6-99

Date Rick "Samgeyser" - June 28

I just saw this on Southside...any truth to it?

"Hey ya'll. I just got off the phone with the folks at Chastain Park in Atlanta and YES it is true. Yes and ELP are booked for Chastain on Monday, Sept. 6th, at 8:00 pm. Tickets go on sale through TicketMaster on July 10th, unless you are one of those elite B series holders where you buy multiple shows, then you can buy your ticket today."

***********************************

From: RMatte8999 - June 28

Thank you for posting the news. i'm in florida and just bought four tickets directly from them. they sell before ticketmaster.fyi:404-233-2227.

***********************************

From: Samgeyser - June 29

FYI, I just spoke with the ticket office at Chastain Park in Atlanta and was told that although they were taking orders for a scheduled concert with ELP and Yes on 9-6-99, that show has now been canceled. Refunds are available. Phone there - 404-233-2227. She did say they received several calls yesterday.

Trevor Rabin on Jack Frost Soundtrack CD

From: Henry Potts [h.potts@ucl.ac.uk] - June 19

From: Chaz [chazm@ilos.net]
"Don't feel bad. I just ordered in the soundtrack to Jack Frost, because I read on the net that Trevor Rabin had composed the score. To my horror, it contains 3 tunes by Hanson and lots of other scary bands your 6-year old likely likes. Rabin only has one track. Has anyone heard it or seen the movie. I have not removed the shrinkwrap, because I'm afraid to hurt myself."

Rabin is also part of the Jack Frost Band, who have two more tracks on the album.

Tim's Updated Yes Website

From: Tim Lutterbie [yesrocks@netease.net] - June 19

Hey folks check out my page, I updated it a little, added a cool thing!! Tell me what ya think!! YES page: http://www.netease.net/members/yesrocks/yesyears.htm.

Various Artists CD featuring JA

From: Suzanne Cerquone [bravegirl@earthlink.net] - June 20

I found this from a singer-songwriter list I'm on:

"And a various artist CD called 'Streams', which has among other things Maire Brennan and Michael McDonald doing Peter Gabriel's 'Don't Give Up', Jon Anderson of Yes doing a song with 4HIM, Sixpence None the Richer, Michelle Tumes (who also co-wrote and sang back up on several tracks, including the Sixpence song), and the high points for me, songs by Cindy Morgan and Jaci Velasquez. Davey Spillane also plays pipes and whistles on a couple of songs."

Anybody here know much about it? Sounds pretty interesting! Not sure who "4HIM" is. Sounds like he/she/they could be religious.

***********************************

From: Roy DeRousse [relayer@iname.com] - June 20

I believe it IS a religious CD, Suzanne. I remember hearing about it some time ago. I guess it's out now? Maire Brenna (of Clannad) has a gorgeous voice, but I can't imagine what she sounds like with Michael McDonald

Jon's sound sample from "Streams" CD

From: Phil Bradley [pbradley@apex.net] - June 20

Go to: http://www.wordrecords.com/.

When the promo for "Streams" loads, click: "Click here and experience this new Word Records release"

After the multi-media intro (which you can skip), click: "The Only Thing I Need - 4HIM & Jon Anderson" to hear a snippet.

Sounds great. Haven't located a copy in person. Did find it on CDNow after I searched for this specific song.

***************************************

From Anne [AYESMAMA@aol.com] - June 25

I just bought the CD Streams, because it had a song that features Jon. YES, 4HIM is a religious band. The whole cd is Christian based. I haven't had a chance to hear the whole thing, but I do like the song Jon is on (the only reason I bought it:).

It is very pop oriented, but pretty and not overly dogmatic as far as I have heard so far. I think Rick Wakeman would like it

BTW, this is the thing (or one of the things) Jon was doing in Nashville. Robin Crow is also on the song with Jon - plays guitar, I believe.

Tape Trades

From: Leonardo Ledesma [leonardo.ledesma@usa.net] - June 21

I'm interested in trade rare Yes and solo videos. In 1993, both Anderson (in May) and Wakeman (september) played in Lima, Peru, and I had the chance to meet and interview them. I have videos of Jon press conference and TV interviews (and a couple of songs from his show) and Rick's interviews and full concert here, beside many Yes rare videos. So anyone interested please e-mail me.

Tower Records TV Ad for "Return"

From Lowell [LReed1@aol.com] - June 21

Tower Records is running a TV commercial that leads off with RTTCOTE on sale. It includes about 2.5 seconds of Buried Alive. This is the first I have seen of any media promotion of the CD. Any other sightings???

It was on the Los Angeles Fox station during a rerun of Home Improvement at 7:00pm, which is not a cheap buy.

Yes-inspired Cover Art

From: Steve Lehrfeld [DREG@hutman.com] - June 23

If you want to see several Yes-inspired artworks, check out: http://www.jiicomp.se/progart/.

Sure, some border on copyright-infringement, but they are good. perhaps we could contact one of the artists and use his services for our compilation? (or do we have something already?)

Trevor Horn LIVE in Los Angeles June 25th

From: Roy DeRousse [relayer@iname.com] - June 20

I found this on the ZTT mailing list. We've heard about this concert before, but I got a kick out of Trevor Horn being described as "former member of Yes." Ummm... the man HAS done a few things since that time. LOL! Still, I'll neverbe unhappy to see Yes given any attention! :)

=== From: "Mark Wasiel" [markw@pcmagic.net]

Attention people of Los Angeles,

Trevor Horn will be performing live with Sir George Martin and the L.A. Bowl orchestra this Friday the 25th. I was listening to the local (& greatest!) public radio station, KCRW 89.9 fm (http://www.kcrw.org) and they mentioned this Hollywood Bowl concert of Beatles music with many special guests. When they announced Trevor Horn ("former member of Yes") I nearly drove off the road. Actually, I nearly drove off the road when they announced that one of the other artists performing would be the reunited Bangles?!?! Huh?! :)

It sounds like a weird show that's for sure but I wanted to post the info in case someone wants to go. It's obviously a very rare occasion to see Trevor perform live. I'm assuming that he will be singing a song or two. I might go if I can get some cheap tickets. --Mark Wasiel

That must have been a misprint. It's Trevor RABIN that's appearing at that show.

"The Ladder" Release Date - bonus track for Japanese CD

From: Eddie Lee [eddie_k_lee@hotmail.com] - June 21

This is from the Japanese Yes mailing list:

"The Ladder will be released on Sept. 22nd. in Japan. It's later than over there, but it includes ONE BONUS TRACK!"

**********************************

From: Roy DeRousse [roylayer@yahoo.com]

From what I understand, many Japanese labels require "something extra" in order to release a CD domestically. In many cases it's cheaper to import a CD into Japan than to buy it domestically, so they want something "extra" that will entice the local fan to buy the Japanese version.

Yes Surrounds America Tour Journal

From Paul Bartek [pbartek@buffnet.net] - June 21

Found this while I was checking for info on a potential new receiver for my home system. It's heavy on the DTS sound format but it's still worth checking out. http://www.dtsonline.com/yes/journal.html.

It's a link to a journal page of the Yes/Alan Parsons tour. It's a venue by venue review about the music with an eye toward the "new" DTS sound system that was being tried out. I haven't read the whole thing myself but I was interested in what I did read. Just paste the link into your browser's address bar and you should be able to view the site.

Steve Howe Interview at KUNO

From: Eddie_K_Lee@hotmail.com - June 22

This is off AMY:

***********************************

I have some unreliability problems with my webmaster recently, so I put the much-expected Steve Howe interview online myself!

Please have a look at this fantastic, revealing interview featuring everything YES concerns from 1995 onward - including "The Ladder" at http://www.planet-interkom.de/skardelke/index.htm.

By far the most interesting interview I had for quite a few times.

So enjoy,
Sven Kardelke
Editor KUNO Online

What's in a name, anyway?

From: Toltec7 - June 21

Well, now I've seen it all. I know lots of people who have named their respective children (or pets) Jon, Chris, Olias, Khatru, Soleil (I'm guilty of this one!) but how's this one:

There's a kid on MTV's Road Rules named YES! He's from Berkeley and says "yes I am named after the 70's rock group YES. My parent's are big hippies I guess."

Okay, so fess up: who out there are his parents? ;)

Updated Forgotten Yesterdays

From: Rene Lester [luvernelib@fcbl.net] - June 25

Someone has been busy. If you haven't been to the Forgotten Yesterdays site on Notes from the Edge you are in for a treat. It is completely revamped with a new design, new graphics, great photos, the works. Relive your favorite concerts. My compliments to Pete Whipple for one of the best Yes sites out there. Here is the address: http://www.nfte.org/fy/.

Also note that our own Eddie Lee receives a lot of thanks for his contributions of many of the Tourbooks scanned into this site.

"The Ladder" Track Listing

From: RKauff7777@aol.com - June 26

Here's the track listing for The Ladder. I've had this for a little while but wasn't supposed to say anything. That's why I didn't get into the release date lottery. However, someone else on a.m.y. posted it. So, now that it's been made public, I feel I can post it here.

1. Home World (The Ladder) 9'33
2. It'll Be A Good Day 4'53
3. Lightning Strikes 4'34
4. Can I 1'32
5. Face To Face 5'03
6. If Only You Knew 5'42
7. To Feel Alive (hep yeda) 5'07
8. Finally 6'01
9. The Messenger 5'13
10. New Language 9'19
11. Nine Voices 3'20

BTW, I've heard Lightning Strikes and IT ROCKS!!!!!! I LOVED IT RIGHT AWAY!!! It's totally different from the Homeworld clip. Also, from what I hear, they're still deciding on the final order of the songs. Can't wait till this comes out!

Hot Scoop on New Album

From: Alan Jackson [saxon65@richmond.infi.net] - June 18

Okay, I know I can be a sarcastic SOB sometimes, but I have some new, true info on the new album. There is a guy from here in Richmond that moved to LA a few years ago. He knows many people in the music industry and regularly calls a DJ buddy here at the classic rock station with inside info on the music world. He was out with Jason Bonham the other night and they ran into Chris Squire at Stuart Copeland's(and his brother's)club in LA. They partied for a while, and then our favorite Whale invited some people back to his house.

Squire had the rough mixes for the new album at his house. This guy from Richmond listened to it and said all Yes fans are going to be extremely pleased. The band sounds like a complete unit for the first time in a long time. He said there are some what he called "more radio type" friendly songs, but there are some "jammy ten minute" type pieces as well. The DJ asked if the radio friendly songs were like Owner, and he said no. While they can be played on the radio, he would not call them simple pop songs.

This sounds promising, but again, we will have to wait until the fall to know for sure. A couple of other points.......he said Igor's playing is amazing, and that "Yes fans will not remember Wakeman after hearing this album". Well, there you go Froy. Also, Squire said Yes is considering a small 30 day tour at the end of the summer which will include Emerson, Lake, and Palmer? I thought this was strange, as they are no longer together. Maybe Squire had a little too much of the drinky. The full tour will start in the fall after the album release.

Sorry for the length, but I felt everyone would want to know this info. I trust the guy, as his reports are usually very accurate. Take it for what it's worth.
