Patrick Moraz CD for $99?
From: izyrp@odn.de - March 4i've just -very surprisingly to me- discovered a CD box (or is this only one CD?) by Patrick Moraz for "only" $99. this cd (s) -how many they wouldnt say- contains apparently samples or tracks in all possible music styles to be used as a film score, so it seems to be Patricks main income. anyone knows more about this? check this out to see what im talking about: http://www.britishaudio.com/ProductionMusic/Production_Music_PM1001.htm
March Issue of Mojo
From: Jonathanbabcock@aol.com - March 4Mojo,"The Music Magazine."
I lucked across this in the Nashville airport and had about 3 hours on trains/busses & Taxis to read it. That's about how long it will take to read EVERY iota of it, but the cover story is on classic Prog bands and it's pretty interesting. 1 pg for in particular on CTTE will be of interest to those that read posts here. (But the Genesis article is biGGer and better)
Go to a bookstore this month.

Bill Bruford's Earthworks to Tour US From: Rob S. [Goin4the1] March 13
Hello Yeafans, Article at the bottom :
This is a whorthwhile show to see Yesfans. I saw Bill on his last Tour at a The Theater of the Living Arts in Philly and it was very enjoyable. It is all Jazz and he is a pro. Yes he only plays acoustic Drums and his Jazz music. He comes right out after the show to sign autographs and take pictures and is very kind. He actually stood when he shook everyones hand. You can tell he is very well mannered and very boylike.
A must for the diehard Yesfan. A hard autograph to get. A valueable piece to your Yestibles. A must see show also. Rob S.
"THE SOUND OF SURPRISE" CD RELEASE
MARCH 13 EUROPE, MARCH 27 NORTH AMERICAAvailable from good record stores and www.disciplineglobalmobile.com Cat No: DGM 0101
U.S. TOUR DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY
Bill Bruford's Earthworks is that rare animal in jazz, a "working band". Stability and steady work give the musicians a chance to internalise the music; the sooner the complex mechanics become second nature, the sooner the fun starts. Trust, empathy, and sharp reactions develop apace. After two years of steady touring, Bruford has produced Earthworks' seventh CD, and those qualities are much in evidence on this 9 track, 62 minute set, which is also enhanced with live footage of the band at full throttle.
Bruford, rapidly becoming known as "Britain's Art Blakey" for the way this drummer-leader offers an international platform to some of the brightest jazz talent of the day, such as Allan Holdsworth, Jeff Berlin, Django Bates, Steve Hamilton, and Patrick Clahar, has again written most of the material. His sidelong slippery tunes with their Breckerish post-bop turns, odd confections of time, percussive phrasing and sudden dramatic twists, prove once again why he is considered one of the world's foremost composer-drummer-leaders in jazz. Welcome to "THE SOUND OF SURPRISE".

From: Rick [Samgeyser@aol.com] March 30Trevor Rabin does the score for the latest Schwarzenegger movie "The 6th Day." Many of the techno-savvy folks who reside here are aware of the many different features available on some DVD's and this movie, on DVD, features audio commentary by Trevor describing the entire musical score he composed. Listening to commentaries can be dull but this is a must listen to if you are a musician or just a Trevor fan.
While he does, at times, sound a bit cliche', he does explain his thought process and how he arrives at composing the many different cues in the score.
A few mentions of "Yes" and how he was with them playing in Japan and thought, "I need to do something else. This is beginning to feel like groundhog day!" He also mentions how scoring a film is like art. Once it's done, it's done. You don't go back to it. Unlike a rock band where "you just can't do that." He said he couldn't stand playing "Owner of a Lonely Heart" anymore after "some 600 times to screaming fans ... when he just didn't feel that way."
Probable the funniest part is when he describes how Stephen Seagal asked him for guitar lessons and Trevor taught him "Red House." Then Seagal returned the favor by bringing him along to his next picture even though Trevor had very little experience doing movies. That's basically how he got started. He said it was something he simply wanted to do and no one stopped him.
He also speaks about using an orchestra in this movie compared to others he's scored. How "a real orchestra brings more to it than a synthesized one."
The movie is futuristic and it is "Ah-nold" ... who still can't act, but is sounds great in digital surround and it is Trevor. I know I gave some detailed descriptions but I also know not everyone has a DVD.
Musicians will appreciate it.
