YES' Frontman Riffs on Album, "Homeworld" Track
Gaming Pro World caught up with progressive rock legend and lead
vocalist Jon Anderson this week to catch the story behind the band's new critically-acclaimed studio album, The Ladder.
Anderson, currently on tour, explains the band's philospohies towards making music, the recent addition of keyboardist Igor Khoroshev, and the Sierra Studios / Relic collaboration that brought about the album's title track, "Homeworld 'The Ladder'."
"I have always considered that the future of technology is going to be in the game adventure world, " said Anderson, whose interest in electronic gaming led him to collaborate with Sierra Studios and Relic Entertainment, developers of the 3D realtime strategy game Homeworld.
In meetings with Homeworld Director [and Relic CEO] Alex Garden,
Anderson discovered many shared themes between the game's plot and YES' music. Ideas from these sessions led the band to the completion of a track they'd struggled with in the studio.
Says Anderson, "YES is often called a progressive rock band and,
mentally, we're always interested in the future. [Homeworld 'The
Ladder'] is about the power of truth and peace and how we're all
trying to find our home -- we're all trying to find our Homeworld. Great fit! So "The Ladder" became the track "Homeworld," and our album is called "The Ladder."
