RTTCOTE ticket availability
From: Nic Caciappo (nicbeat@earthlink.net) - October 2

I do believe that tickets will be available soon. Perhaps in a matter of a few weeks now, so get that RWCC membership moving!

Someone said: "BTW: I'd like to wish Rick every success with the project. Also, Patrick Stewart narrating is an excellent choice."

He is an excellent choice. The story of how that happened is really quite brilliant, but perhaps I'd better save that for Rick to tell. There is going to be an "electronic press kit" or "video press kit" available for advance promotion from EMI. Included in the video will be something like "The Making of RttCotE", and you'll see Patrick Stewart in the studio taping his parts as well as a few comments from the captain himself. Patrick Stewart was very keen on doing this project, he is a fan of Rick's and most of all because he said that Rick has composed wonderful music and has written a great story to go along with it.

Rick on the Wireless

From: Phil Jones (phil.jones8@virgin.net) - Oct. 7

I had to say wireless, because the term still applies when it comes to the UK's Radio Three!

Rick is featured in a program on Radio 3 on 6 October 1998, called "Music Machine".

The programme running from 4.45 to 5.00pm discusses all sorts of things, and this week the subject has been Progressive Rock.

The radio times said:

Tommy Pearson continues his investigation into progressive rock with a look at some of the major bands from the 70s and 80s: Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes and ELP. And he unearths the first ever attempt to create a rock opera.

The program was very interesting indeed. Off subject a little, but the opera Tommy P has found was SF Sorrow by the Pretty Things, which I remember well when it first came out - it has just been re-issued and is well worth a listen.

Genesis do not feature too strongly, but each item proved to be a significant statement about the music in question.

Rick was talking in a recent interview about his feelings on Yes music, expressing his likes and dislikes, and his satisfaction regarding Close to The Edge.

Ch. 19 - Caped Crusader

From: "Bruce" (epeters2@maine.rr.com) October 27.

With many thanks to Jon for doing the OCR and especially to Dan Wooding for his permission, I have made chapter 19 of the Caped Crusader ("Roundabout") permanently available at the following address.

http://home.maine.rr.com/abajoran/nineteen.htm.

I still need to smooth out a couple of rough edges, but it is readable...due to the length, perhaps you should save the page and read it offline... .

Wakeman Master Series & The Strawbs

From: Gary Davis (artshop@artist-shop.com) October 28.

Hello fellow Wakeman fans: .

The latest Artist Shop newsletter is out. You'll find it in its entirety at . But here's a couple items from my import distributor Wakeman fans would definitely want to know about. The first is a forthcoming release and is found on our pre-order page at ..

WAKEMAN,RICK-MASTER SERIES
Collection of choice solo recordings by Yes' former keyboardist. .

This Strawbs item has been released and can be found in our list of new import releases at ..

STRAWBS-ANTIQUES AND CURIOS + 3
Digitally remastered reissue of their 1970 album, complete with three previously unreleased bonus track from the era: "The Vision Of The Lady Of The Lake", "We'll Meet Again Sometime" and "Forever". 13 tracks total. Recorded live at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, this was the group's first album to be a U.K. chart hit. The line-up on the performance is founders Dave Cousins & Tony Hooper with the rhythm section of John Ford & Richard Hudson, plus then young keyboard discovery Rick Wakeman. .

Of special interest are the previously unreleased tracks which do include Rick. Lady of the Lake seems to be a Cousins/Wakeman duet with the former on vocals and guitar and Rick on piano. We'll Meet Again Sometime has some great organ work by Rick (although the organ could have been mixed a bit higher). Rick's contributions to Forever aren't too clear, but I think I hear some celeste in there somewhat buried in the mix. .

Spread the word!
Gary.
