JUST SAY YES
If you want front-row seats for the Nov. 12 Yes concert at the Orpheum in Minneapolis, forget it. Even though tickets don't go on sale until Saturday morning at Ticketmaster and the Orpheum, 40 percent of the seats already have been sold via the band's Web site {www.yesworld.com). Other acts, including Phish, Motley Crue, and the Alanis Morisett/Tori Amos tour, have sold tickets
early on the Net. And Target Center has offered Timberwolves and Lynx season ticket holders first shot at tickets for Elton John's Nov. 6 concert before the public sale begins Saturday. Rock, er, log on.

On October 7th there will be a KUNO interview with Jon Anderson talking about "The Ladder" and other things. I plan to add a few questions to the regular interview that you might give to me. The answers will be exclusively published on this newsgroup. The interview itself will be available on the KUNO homepage (www.klex.de/kuno) mid-October.
So if there is anything you ever wanted to ask Jon Anderson, send me your questions!
See you then,
Sven Kardelke
KUNO Editor

I didn't really get the connection, but tonight on Letterman, after Dave introduced Harrison Ford, Paul and the band played him on to the strains of OOALH....Oh, now I know! His new movie is "Random Hearts". You think the boys will be on Dave's show this time around?

Top 100 Soundscan Debut (No. 99)
Group's Best in More Than Five Years
Progressive Rock legends Yes entered the Internet chart at No. 3 (week's top Internet debut) with their new release titled "The Ladder" (Sept. 28).
"The Ladder" sold 15,111 copies (debuted Billboard Top 100 (No. 99) above ZZ Top), including nearly 2,000 (13 percent) through the Internet/broadband due to the innovative ways the band had targeted this album directly to their hard-core fans with the use of the Internet, new technology and partnerships.
Yes had put their tickets on sale early via their Web site, www.yesworld.com, and mailed a Digital Audio Postcard from Global Music One(TM) (www.globalmusic.com) in early September that offered fans a free limited-edition collector's CD with purchase of a ticket.
The CD contains the following:
--"Homeworld," a new track from the upcoming "Ladder" CD; -- A demo of the "Homeworld" video game, the new PC CD-ROM game from
Sierra Studios that takes real-time strategy games into the next
dimension (for more information on this ground-breaking game, go
to www.homeworld.com); -- Liquid Audio Players for Mac and PC and a link to etown for free digital downloads of two more Yes tracks, previously unreleased live recordings of "I've Seen All Good People" and "And You and I"; -- A video press kit featuring Yes interviews, historical performances and in-studio footage from the making of "The Ladder" produced by rock legend Bruce Fairbairn.
This promotion drove fans to the Web site and gave them the opportunity to purchase "The Ladder" before the Sept. 28 street date.
Global Music One Chief Executive Officer Ralph Simon remarked: "The innovative use of our proprietary digital postcard was an integral part of a carefully planned campaign two months prior to `The Ladder's' release. The implementation of our empowering technology, along with Beyond's and Tower.com's marketing ingenuity, underlines the exponential importance of 'permission viral' marketing to artists.
"For an established artist like Yes, this reflects a perfect marriage between targeted new technology and artists' audiences, in this case resulting in the highest-debuting album in Billboard's Internet charts."
"The Yes preorder promotion was incredibly successful for TowerRecords.com. In fact, it's the most successful promotion we've offered online this year! There were many components that attributed to the success of this promotion, but partnering with Beyond and yesworld.com were indeed the key, as we were able to reach the fans directly with this unique and exciting offer," said Kari Necker, Tower Records.
Yes feature a classic lineup of Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe and Alan White, who are again joined by Billy Sherwood and Igor Khoroshev.
Yes, formed in 1968, have been on the leading edge of progressive rock music for more than three decades. Yes were the first band to feature a consistent line of merchandise on their world tours, and have performed with such legendary artists as Cream, The Who, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple and Supertramp.
To date, the band have sold more than 28 million albums worldwide, including the unforgettable albums "Fragile" and "Close to the Edge." "The Ladder" will mark the 30th anniversary of the band's first album release, "Yes," released initially in 1969.
"The Ladder" was released on YES/Beyond Records Sept. 28. Bruce Fairbairn, legendary producer best known for his work with Aerosmith ("Get a Grip," "Pump"), Bon Jovi ("Slippery When Wet," "New Jersey") and The Cranberries ("To the Faithful Departed"), had just completed making "The Ladder" prior to his death on May 20, 1999.

I saw Homeworld in Media Play at lunch time and was all ready to buy it ($49.99) until I read the minimum system requirements. I had the memory (32 MB), hard drive space (100 MB), CD-ROM (4x) and 500 MB permanent swap file covered BUT not the minimum Pentium II 233 MHz CPU. I'm still working off a lowly Pentium 233-MMX :(. I know the Pentium IIs can execute 3 instructions per cycle while the ol' Pentiums can only do one, so I'm not going to get this until I build my new computer. I think it would be too frustrating to try and run it without the minimum requirements.
There is a very prominent yellow sticker proclaiming Yes' involvement with the project and the graphics looked kinda cool. It is a shoot-em-up type game, which I normally don't spend time on, but I will get this when I get my hardware up to speed

Just read an article about Yes in a UK magazine called Record Mart & Buyer, they interview Rick, Steve and Jon, here is the excerpt:
Wakeman left after deciding that he no longer wanted to tour with the band he describes as "unmanageable". This in turn led to a problem with the final mix on the 'Keys To Ascension 2' album as Rick explains, "What happened was that I had left the band by the time the album came out. I think the guys had got the hump because I had left and they had gone back into the studio and got it of a load of stuff that was on the original. In theory I could have put an injunction the album because it was not what I had signed for. But I'm not into all that. If you want to play petty games, then that's fine by me."

Also, here are some quotes that the "Yes shouldn't provide the soundtrack to a PC game" peeps can use as ammunition. It's from the UK magazine PC Gamer, issue 75:
"UM, NO
So you want to really push your new game, do you? Well, can I suggest you sign up Robbie Williams, Blur or Fatboy Slim? Oh, you want something a little more staid? For Chr*st's sake (and ours) steer clear of rubbish 70's prog rockers Yes, a band so awfully contrived that my brother likes them (he's also into Def Leppard). We'd have preferred a Yes/No option."

Our Progressive Maze website regularly updates the tour schedules (including the recently-announced UK dates). When Yes supporters inform me
I was surprised to find this in yesterday's Expressen, one of Sweden's main newspapers:
Yes: The ladder
Say "Jon Anderson, Chris squire, Steve Howe and Alan White" and the fans sigh "Yes". Add an "oh" if Rick Wakeman would have been there. Especially since the symphony rockers have gone back to classic ground. It is pompous, pretentious, beautiful and at times a fascinating muscial building.

Three out of five "Wasp's". Much better than the one's or crossed over "wasp's" Yes usually get!

I guess "Musikladen" is/was a German TV show. There's a little more info at DVD Express: click here for link
==================================================
Superb musicianship and artistry come blazing though in these rare and exciting performances of artists and groups of the '60s, '70s and '80s. These are the international stars that were part of the televised monthly music show Beat Club and MusikLaden. Filmed in Germany at the television studios of Radio Bremen, MusikLaden, (originally known as Beat Club) became a TV classic not only for the fans but also for the artists who took part. There was no time limitation on song length so artists were able to perform live concert versions of their most popular hit songs.
One of the most beloved progressive rock bands of all time, Yes charted a mystical and celestial course in the annals of rock history. Spanning over three decades of music, the group's magical body of work effortlessly displayed a freewheeling musical virtuoso ability and imaginative, enchanting lyrical wordplay.
Tracks include:
No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed
Running time of 20 minutes.

Review from Eddie Lee - Oct 11
Well, I just bought the "Yes: MusikLaden Live" DVD this morning. Not a bad release but it's just too short.
Two of the songs: "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" and "Yours Is No Disgrace" had been released as part of the "Beat Club" laser disc in Japan several years ago.
"No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" is on black and white. It featured the original line up with Peter Banks and Tony Kaye plus Bill, Chris and Jon.
"All Good People" is kind of an disappointment because it does not include "Your Move", I wonder if they did that originally?
"Your Is No Disgrace" is just awesome, you can feel the raw energy of the band playing.
I guess $13.99 is not a bad price. The problem I had with my copy is it went idle after the FBI warning, it should go directly to the main manual, but I have to press the menu button to go there. I wonder if mine is a defective disc or not. Please let me know if any of you had bought a copy of it and have the same problem.
Bring Homeworld to the Mac!!!!
http://www.gabrielli.com/macgames/
Well another great Yes Rockline segment is in the can. What did we learn???? Hmm....
We learned that someone could chop-edit an already too-rushed Homeworld.
But on the other hand, just like the concerts, we have to endure yet another FULL LENGTH version of Roundabout.
We learned that our boys are adding Feelings to their set list. I thought they already had, but changed the title to If Only You Knew.
No mention of Trevor, however they managed to play out a couple of the shows segments w/ Trevor tunes, and did in fact feature OOALH in it's full length and glory. I have this vision of Steve scowling in the studio, just like he does on stage when he's playing a Trevor tune.
We heard Alan relate his "hanging up the phone on John Lennon story" for the 20th time.
We got an interesting take on why they're not yet in the R & R Hall of Fame.
We did not learn how Bruce Fairbairn died.
I noticed that Steve didn't chime in w/ an answer to the Trevor "It Can Happen" Trivia question. His silence was deafening.
We learned that it takes about $300,000 to get a record played on the radio. My follow-up question would have been to ask them if they ponied up the $300K. My radio tells me they didn't.
We learn that Billy comps his brother Michael tickets to Yes shows in Vegas, even though he's making a fortune cranking out commercials.
Another great interview w/ Yes. Once again, nothing but softballs getting lobbed up. I'm glad I stayed up for it.
Hi, This is a bit long.
As I walked in the door, I turned on my local radio station. They are a classic rock format but mainly play ZZ Top, Bad Co. and all the Skynyrd I can stand, but I heard the jock say that he will be chatting with Jon Anderson. So I called him and asked when. He said. well...in a few minutes but, "You are not allowed to record it and all things heard on this station are property of the radio station and it is illegal to record it." So I said, yeah
sure...my tape player won't be running. I won't get into the rest of that now.
So I told him about The Ladder to which he replied, "Yeah, we get all the new stuff in here...we have The Ladder, but we're never gonna play it. We may play the new CSN&Y though. It sounds like heavy Neil Young!" When I asked him why he wasn't going to play the new Yes he said, "Because no one listens to that kind of stuff anymore!" I was shocked. Then I kinda tore into him and informed him about the shows coming to Florida next week. He said it would be difficult for him to promote a Yes concert in Orlando when, on the same day here in Daytona, Foghat was coming. We talked for a few minutes more but basically he wasn't interested in knowing anything about what the band was doing now but more interested in how "legendary" the band is and how amazing it is that they still are ABLE to tour.
Then after a few teasers, he has Jon on the radio via telephone from Myrtle Beach. He asked Jon some of the same lame questions like Bob Coburn did on Rockline. He asked him who thought up the name "Yes?" Jon told him the Peter Banks story. Jon said the reason that Yes survives today is because of the friendships that exist with the band. That they have been friends for over 30 years and how they all love the new album and are excited about touring.
The jock then flip flopped and promoted Yes at the HOB a week from today. He taped the interview with Jon, edited it to bits and pieces and played music in between. Guess what songs he played? If you guessed LDR and Owner you win a prize.
I was glad to hear Jon as he sounded very relaxed. It really was a surprise because they aren't playing Daytona Beach and it is genuinely the first time I have ever heard this radio station do an interview with someone they are not promoting for their own reasons.
It is so clear to me that we, as fans, need to all we can to promote the group ourselves. We need to call the radio stations, newspapers, do whatever we can to talk about the band. Yes, there is an incredible history connected with Yes but there is also new and exciting music worth talking about. No matter who here doesn't like The Ladder, to me, it is fresh and still sounds like Yes. No one sounds like Yes to me. There is something so wonderful about these guys playing together and I for one am going to take it all in while I can.
If anyone wants an exact transcript of the radio interview, just ask and I will get it to you.
Thanks for listening!
I have lamented endlessly here about the lack of local coverage of anything related to Yes. Two weeks ago I called the local newspaper here to inquire as to why nothing had been mentioned about the current tour and Florida shows. The editor there said he would see what he could do. Today I found this under "Weekly Best Bets"
From the News Journal, Daytona Beach, Florida 10-15-99
YES MEN IN THE HOUSE
Flying keyboards more frilly than a Bach toccata, mousy guitars faster than a speeding bullet, high-pitched vocals that make the Vienna Boys Choir sound like beefy truck drivers...put those ingredients into a single rock band and you can draw only one conclusion: Yes, Yes is back.
Yes, the band that put a capital "A" in art rock back in the 1970s, has just released a new album titled "The Ladder." Faithful fans of the band won't have to do too much jockeying of their scorecards. Though Yes has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years. the current incarnation includes founding members Jon Anderson on vocals and Chris Squire on bass, and longtime members Steve Howe on guitar and Alan White on drums. "The Ladder," named after a Yoko Ono art exhibit that featured a ladder, a magnifying glass and the printed word "yes" finds the yes guys up to their old tricks. Sure. there's a bit of technotribal vibe here, and the odd didgeridoo there (you know, that Australian instrument that sounds like a bullfrog). But mostly it's the ol' arty faux classical stuff.
Look for Yes in concert to be more of the same when the band performs at 9 p.p. Oct.22 at the House Of Blues. Tickets are $50, available through Ticketmaster.
I think this is probably the best Anderson interview I've ever read: Allmusic Zine | Jon Anderson of YES
I ran across this. CDNOW: Yes' Chris Squire Talks About Upcoming Tour
You can listen to Chris' interview with clips at http://www.j-wave.co.jp/original/fujiyama/ondemand.htm. It's Japanese radio but interview was done in English. Chris apperas at the latter half. You need REAL AUDIO G2 player.

I just listened & watched the interview with Chris, pretty fun to watch a Real Video interview. Instead of listening to the other stuff without Yes, you can drag the timing bar to exactly 36 minutes, that's when they started playing "Owner" and Chris showed up. They also played "Lightning Strikes", "Finally" in between conversations. It ran for about 15 minutes.
Yesworld has news that Yes is going to be in another Yahoo chat in conjunction with House of Blues, on October 20. I went to the HOB web site and also found that they will be doing a video interview with Yes which they will put in their archives starting Nov. 2. You can submit questions that you would like to have asked for the interview at this site:
