This was just a chat between Rick and some 70's footballers. They only one I remembered was Sheffield Utd's Tony Curry. They all kept using nicknames so I had no idea who was being talked about. Rick didn't say anything of musical interest. He clearly loves football though

Rick did play at Maracan zinho in 1975, which is next to Maracan Stadium [world's largest, I believe], home of Brasilian futebol. Rick did play some recreational futebol with other artists in Maracan=E3 stadium at the time. - we have a picture somewhere...
I transfered these 3 pictures from Lucia's pages
http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/dylan/799/fotosbr.htm where I found them. Don't be intimidated by the Portugues language. There are many gems to be found on her pages.

Last September I was dragged into the Las Naciones Hotel in Buenos Aires by Damian Wilson - who was under the impression that I might like to say hello to Rick (why was that I wonder), and Rick was talking to Carlos Salvador Bilardo, the manager of the Argentinian football team when they kept winning world cups back in the 80's. People in that hotel foyer were actually swooning at the sight (of Bilardo!). They seemed to know each other pretty well............ I have a great picture.............. Then, when he left, Damian introduced me..........I felt 1 inch tall after that!

BBC1 television - brief Wakey appearance coming
From: ProgressForum website [tizwin@progress.freeserve.co.uk] - Sept 15
Rick Wakeman is to be one of the guests in a brief news show to be broadcast by BBC1 across Southern England, each weekday evening (around 6.30 in the evening, UK time).
Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 just mentioned it. This is to celebrate the 30th anniversary of seminal 1970s television music show 'The Old Grey Whistle
Test'.

Except for viewers in Scotland :-(
For some reason BBC2 Scotland thinks it is a better idea to show snooker highlights when the rest of the civilised world will be watching TOGWT on BBC2. We north of the border always get the raw end of the deal from the BBC.
However, anyone in Scotland with SKY digital can get "proper" BBC2 on channel 964. Failing that, 965 and 966 show BBC2 Wales and BBC2 NI which do have the Old Grey Whistle Test too. There appears no way of getting any BBC1 other than BBC1 Scotland though :-(
I just hope I remember to set my video to SKY 964 and NOT normal BBC2 or I will be very disappointed !

Wakeman/Cousins
From Chris Berry [BerryCM@Cardiff.ac.us] - Sept 19
From the Strawbs website:
"On Saturday 29 September the Classic Rock Society is holding its tenthanniversary concert, staring Rick Wakeman's English Rock Ensemble, who have recently toured South America. Opening the show between 8.00 - 8.20pm are Rick Wakeman and Dave Cousins - the first time they have played on stage together for 15 years."
I have just obtained a copy of 'The Caped Crusader' from a second-hand bookshop on the internet for =A314 (they were going at up to 360) and it was a good read. However I never expected the above. Then I was emailing a friend in Rotherham and I thought I wonder if they are actually going to play together. Then I looked on the Strawbs website and - bingo! Would be nice if RWCC would confirm......

Well the Advert in Wondrous stories gives the schedule as
8pm Rick and Dave Cousins
8.20 John Wetton and Troy Donockley either solo or in unison
8.50 A few words about ten years of the society
9.15 Rick and the band.
Troy mentioned to me in August it there was a possibility of his joining in on Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The above doesn't really suggest this but it looks an interesting night anyway.

Well it was news to Rick, but he seems fine about it....

Slade Remade
From: Graham Johnson [graham@ggjohnson.co.uk] – Sept 24
Rick and Adam are credited on the "Slade Remade" tribute album. Rick received second billing on the list of artists with Adam at the bottom with no proper track credits. This could lead people to believe they may have had a significant involvement.
For info I believe it has been established that Rick happened to be visiting the studio and they had some problems with Radio Wall Of Sound that he helped out with so his involvement is probably very little. I asked Adam what his involvement was and he tells me he was doing another session and while having a cup of tea was asked to play piano and organ on a couple of tracks :-)
By the way its actually a perfectly OK album but I don't quite see the point of it. As with the Yes tribute Adam produced the arrangements seem pretty similar to the original and only the voices are different.

Hopesongs midis
From: Bruce [epeters2@maine.rr.com]
I have just added 15 midi files from the Hopesongs songbook, co written by Howard Prior and Rick Wakeman. Many thanks to Bruno Cordier who prepared the files. I also scanned the front and back covers of the book
