It's time to take Bella home after 15 months of training with Billy Martin, and get Buster started.

It didn't take as long as I thought it might to catch him in the pasture. I think he thought we were playing with him, so he didn't run away, but he managed to stay just out of reach for about 10 minutes, then we tempted him with lunch, and his days of freedom were over after that. Also he was out with two mares who seemed to be protective of him and sort of ran interference.

Billy demonstrated his professionalism at getting this scared, confused horse into my two-horse stock trailer, aided by a butt rope, in only a matter of minutes.

Down the hill from Billy's house we went back to the training stables. Billy took him directly into the arena and tied him so he couldn't set back or fight the rope. Within 30 minutes of being free and easy in the pasture, Buster was saddled and learning the art of patience while tied.

Buster's a fine looking horse now. He's about 15HH already with straight legs and good conformation. He's going to have a luxurious long mane and tail.

After Billy got Buster saddled, he got out the hose and watered down the dirt around him and a little filly who was tied to the fence about 15 feet to his right. Billy also wetted down his back legs and hips. Buster had no buck to either the saddle or the water from the hose.

My camera lens caught a little bit of the spray.
