Starting out early Saturday morning from the Eddy Ranch, Lynn leads JR into the trailer while Mikey waits his turn. |
Out in the beautiful green hills just west of Gilroy and just south of Mount Madonna, twenty-six riders go after the first group of cows. |
About half way through the ride, the riders rendevous with the "wagoneers". That's Lynn Reed standing on this road. |
After gathering several groups of cows together, the riders push the herd along a fence line and through a couple of gates. |
Michael Reed on Abby keeps a watchful eye on the line of cows. |
A rider keeps the cows from jumping out of line. |
Oops, one cow gets away and heads back to the pasture, but several riders are there to stop him and push him back. |
Keeping them doggies in line ... |
After putting the cows into a pasture for the night, the riders head into camp. Wendy took this picture of her son's friend riding JR, Michael Reed on Abby and me in the safety helmet on Mikey. Mikey is wishing that Abby would get out of his way so that he can be the first horse into camp! |
The six horses from the Eddy Ranch are tied to a rope line strung between trees for the night. Our tents are pitched about 15 feet uphill from the horses. |
Lynn takes her horses one at a time down for a drink at the watering trough and a bit of grazing before tying them on the line near our camp. |
The "view" from my tent door is gorgeous -- gently rolling green hills, tall grass and California coast live oaks as far as the eye can see! |
Sean Reed tries his hand at horseshoes and comes out a Second Place Winner! |
