26-21-3-1; 1936 Triple Crown Winner; War Admiral won the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness by eight lengths and by a head, respectively. His finest hour came in the Belmont when he stumbled near the start and tore away a small section of one front hoof. Despite this injury, he won the race by 3 lengths and equaled the track record; In addition to the Triple Crown races, War Admiral won the Washington Handicap, Chesapeake Stakes, Pimlico Special, and was named Horse of the Year. |

26-10-7-1; A. Jack Joyner purchased Whisk Broom II from breeder S.S. Brown for $2,500 and then sold the colt to H.P. Whitney for the same price. Joyner maintained contact with the colt by being his trainer from ages 2 through 5 when he raced overseas. Whisk Broom II's American trainer was James Rowe Sr. the most notable of Whisk Broom II's European victories was the Victoria Cup, which he won at age 5 while carrying 128 pounds. In this country, Whisk Broom II became the first New York Handicap Triple Crown winner. He won the Metropolitan under 126 pounds, the Brooklyn under 130 in track record time, and the Suburban under 139. As of 1996, 139 pounds remains the highest weight ever carried to victory in the Suburban. Hall of Fame |
