"Renegade Red"

The way the story was told to me
on a very hot day in August, Don went out to check on the water well
and being very hot, Don jumped into the catch basin to cool off.
The young mare took a few moments to think about the
dripping wet creature that re-mounted
and decided to be rid of it.
And away she went.

Since he was having so much fun, Don did not bail off.
When Rosebud returned to earth, Don insisted on going for a nice long gallop.

Note: These photos were taken by intern/assistant Kelly.

Another Note: About this time, I decided to start taking some riding lessons on Rosebud
in anticipation of my taking her home. The day after
these pictures were taken was my first lesson.
As Don was getting her ready, he happened to mention that she had done this,
but didn't explain that it had *just* happened.
I went home that day believing that she had vertically reared *last* summer
as a 2-year old (ancient history). It wasn't until I saw these pictures a couple
of weeks later (my second ride) that I learned she still had a
lot of spunk still in her.
....but she hasn't repeated this performance :-)
